APO History
Alpha Phi Omega sets the standard for campus-based volunteerism. Alpha Phi Omega today is the single most representative undergraduate intercollegiate organization in the United States of America.
For three-quarters of a century, APO has made a positive difference in the lives of college men and women and has helped to improve the quality of life for individuals in need. Nearly 300,000 students have been initiated into Alpha Phi Omega since our founding in 1925, and our current Membership exceeds 17,000 students at approximately 350 colleges and universities.
Theta Chi History
The Theta Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at the George Washington University was originally founded on May 14, 1950. Over the past 50 years, more than 300 GWU students have been initiated into APO, providing service to the campus, the community, the nation and the brotherhood.
Membership to Alpha Phi Omega was opened to women in 1976 after several chapters had proposed co-ed membership. Alpha Phi Omega views the term "brother" as gender neutral. GWU's chapter accepts both boys and girls into its brotherhood.
Fun Fact
The Kansas City Chiefs are named after one of our founding brothers, H. Roe Bartle (aka The Chief!)
